How can I reduce redness and swelling of a tick-bite?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin

I had a tick on my stomache, and now the spot where it bit me is large red bump-like thing, and slightly purple as well. Its comprable to a scab, and it kinda hurts. Its been about a week since I removed the tick, and it never actually sucked my blood (researched it) but the swelling and redness haven’t gone down a bit! Is there any home-remedies or something I can do to help?

Icing it will help with the swelling. Keep a cloth between the ice and your skin to prevent frostbite. Keep the ice on for 20 minutes and then take it off until your skin is back to normal temperature (about 20-30 minutes) and then repeat.
I have to say though, ticks carry a lot of diseases and your bite does not sound normal. Usually all that’s there once the tick is removed is a little red dot. I would advise seeing your doctor, or at least calling them and seeing if they want you to come in.

How do you care for a tick bite?

Posted on June 20th, 2010 by admin

How do you care for a tick bite?

1. Take the tick off.
2. Burn the tick, for retribution.

It’s that simple.
I have pulled hundreds of ticks off of myself. The head never stays.
I have pulled dozens of ticks off of dogs. The head never stayed.

I love the advice from these people who have never or seldom been around ticks!

Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Erlichiosis are all carried by ticks, and you should be fine, if your immune system is robust.

My dog has an infection over her left shoulder blade from a tick bite. What home remedies are there to help?

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by admin

I have tried to cut it open to check for a tick head but I can’t. The nodule is hard and everytime she scratches, she catches it and busts it open. It has a dark spot around the middle of the infection and is not getting any smaller or bigger. It is the size of a quarter. I have been cleaning daily with soap and water and pouring rubbing alcohol over it and putting a bandage with neosporin on it and it is not doing any good.

Sorry to say, your dog needs a vet. Don’t muck around with an infection, it could be dangerous for your dog.

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by admin

I found a tick on my daughter this morning. At that time there was just a small hole where the bite was. Now there is a smal welp that looks like a mosquito bite around the tick bite. Does she need to go to the doctor?

Definitely. Get her tested for Lyme disease

Does Lyme Disease come back on it’s own or do you need to have it come back by a tick bite?

Posted on June 7th, 2010 by admin

My son was diagnosed with Lyme Meningitis last summer. He is having the basic symptoms of a fever, drowsiness, lack of hunger, chills etc. I just wanted to know if the Lyme can come back and affect him again without a tick bite or he needs to have a tick bite him in order to get it again. Thanks!

Borrelia burgdorferi (the bacteria that causes Lyme disease) is known as a "stealth pathogen." Meaning it can hide in the body, evading the immune system. Often, people with Lyme are treated for a set period of time (2-4 weeks) which many times isn’t enough to really clear it from the body. Then, the person can relapse weeks, months or even years later, without a new tick bite.

I definitely would get this checked out, preferably by Lyme specialist affiliated with ILADS.
