How do you remove a engorged tick from a dog?

Posted on July 13th, 2010 by admin

Cover it in Vaseline, wait a few hours then pull it off with a tick remover.

The Vaseline suffocates the tick so it loosens its’ grip.

What’s the best and safest way to remove a tick from a dog?

Posted on June 20th, 2010 by admin

Meaning the safest way for the dog that will get rid of the tick without harming her.

Get some rubbing alcohol and put some on a medicine bottle and then place a drop in the tick then the tick will let go and you can put him in the medicine bottle with the alcohol if you like.
That’s how we do it because it’s best to have the tick let go then to break it off in your pet.

What is the proper method to remove a tick from your skin?

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by admin

I pulled off a tick from my leg, but it itches so bad that I wonder if the head is still in there………It was a very very small one.

Should I take a wire brush to it then hit it with some aftershave?

I would just clean it with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide – on a cotton swab or piece of gauze and watch it for a day or so. You could try a little cortisone cream or antibiotic cream on it, but if it swells or begins to look infected you should seek medical attention.

What do if I remove a tick from my dog?

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by admin

I just found a tick on my dog and removed it with tweezers. I wiped the area with disinfectant, but now what??? What should I do?
PS I pulled the tick out and it was still alive and looked fully intact. I’m worried, did it lay eggs or anything on my dog??

If you have some antibiotic cream just put a dap on the spot where the tick was. I usually flush the tick.
Your dog will be fine. If some of the tick did remain in the dog the cream will help it not get infected.

what is the best way to remove a tick from my horse?

Posted on June 7th, 2010 by admin

My horse has managed to get a tick under his chin, it doesnt seem to be bothering him in the slightest, can I just leave it to drop off on its own or do I need to remove it somehow ? (i am worried that if i try i may not get the head out). Somebody mentioned that it could lead to limes disease if I leave it, has anybody out there had any experience with this?

smother it in vaseline, it wont be able to breathe and should just drop out.

What do you do after removing a tick from your body?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin

I have a friend who removed one, now she has a red bump where the tick had been and also it is itching badly.

Sound like part of the tick might be still inside, common problem if you just try and pull them out. This can lead to a nasty infection if left untreated. I would see a doctor if the symptoms don’t get better. Also keep in mind ticks can carry nasty diseases.

Next time you get a tick embedded in you skin touch a lit cigarette or hot match head to it’s back side, it’ll let go. I’ve also heard of people smearing them with ointment which blocks their breathing resulting in them withdrawing.
