when plucking a tick, does the head of the tick stay under the surface of the skin?

Posted on June 27th, 2010 by admin

I found a load of ticks on my German Shepard / Golden Retriever about 2 weeks ago so I immediately bathed him with flea / tick removal soap and plucked off the ticks I saw. Well I went to feed him and yet saw another one. How do I get rid of these ticks? We hired an exterminator to spray the yard but he still has them. We also apply this medicine on his skin once a month but it doesn’t seem to work.(we started about 2 or 3 months ago when we 1st noticed the ticks) So my question is when plucking a tick, does the head stay in the skin? And how do I get rid of them the fastest way? cause were moving soon and I want them to be gone before we put him in the new yard. (to prevent further breeding in the grass and stuff) He only has ticks and not fleas.

You should try to remove the head along with the body. Take a tweezers and go as close to his skin as possible. Grab the tick tightly and pull slowly but firmly. Some of the dogs tissue will pull out with the tick and there will be a bump where the tick was for a while, but it should be fine. Remove them as soon as possible to avoid contacting lyme disease.

what will stop tick bites from itching sooooo bad?

Posted on June 27th, 2010 by admin

i have a couple of bites around my waist that are very irritating

I hope that the ticks have been removed….. Hydro-cortisone cream over the counter can help the itching. Be very careful though…. ticks carrie Lyme disease and it can be pretty serious… pretty uncommon but keep an eye out for any fever, round red rash around tick bite, fatigue, joint stiffness and or pain, memory/ concentration problems. These are all classic signs of Lyme disease. It is easily diagnosed and treated… don’t mean to freak you out just trying to give you a heads up. Good Luck!

What symptoms do I look for after a tick bite?

Posted on June 27th, 2010 by admin

We pulled a very large tick off my 4 year old daughters head. She is acting fine at the moment. What should I look for to know if she needs to see a doctor?

if the tick has been attached for more than a day it is possible that lime disease or even rockey mnt.spotted fever may be contracted.look for symptoms of flu, fatigue, swelling around bite that does not go away in a couple of days.i dont want to cause panic but if you are concerned take child to doctor for test. nothing to take lightly.

What should I do after removing a tick from my dog?

Posted on June 27th, 2010 by admin

I just removed a tick from my dog. I used to tweezers to get it off. Is there anything I should do to make sure there is nothing left of it there?

Just put a dap of antibiotic cream on the bite site. Never burn a tick out of your dog. The possibility of burning the dogs skin is to high and it not any better than just using the tweezers.

What is the best way to remove a tick from your dog? How about tick disposal?

remove it with tweezers. make sure you get the head, too though. when you get it off, burn it. then flush it.
