What is a good shampoo for a hedgehog and what is a good tick removal shampoo or spray?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

I have a hedgehog and I would really like to know

I use a gentle puppy/kitten shampoo with yucca butter. Most gentle shampoos will work, but avoid any that contain tea tree oil because it can cause reactions in hedgehogs.

None of my hedgehogs have ever had ticks. Many hedgehogs get mites, and for either of these, the most successful removal is typically done by an exotic veterinarian. Revolution (selamectin) is a topical pesticide that is used to treat a mite infestion, while ticks are often pulled out carefully. As long as your hedgehog is indoors most of the time, I don’t think that he or she will get any tick problems.

Good luck!

What is a homeopathic way to prevent tick bites on dogs?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

I have been finding ALOT of ticks on my two dogs lately, and I don’t want my house to become infested with ticks. I want to be able to sit with my dogs and not have to worry about ticks getting on my or my furniture. If anyone knows any homeopathic ways to prevent ticks from biting my dogs, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There isn’t any – it’s not truly effective, all the brewers yeast, garlic, etc. – just doesn’t work well.

Only thing absolutely works is a topical liquid every month for fleas and tix – Frontline Plus and Advantix work very well.

You are just fooling yourself i you try all the homemade recipes, your dogs won’t be protected.

By the way, garlic is dangerous for dogs as are onions – can cause blood problems.

how to stop itchiness and swelling of a tick bite?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

I got a tick bite about two weekends ago on my neck and i got a bull’s eye rash around it. So i went to the doctors and im on antibiotics. I just started them today and my rash seems to be getting worse. Its really itchy and sore. Its really swollen and i feel like its getting bigger. How can i stop the itchiness and swelling?

I hear you. Same thing happened to me around the same time and then my 10 year old son was playing outside yesterday and got bitten too. Ugh.

Check with your doc first, but try benadryl cream. You’ll find it in the first aid section but we are both finding it to releive the itch immediately!

It may or may not interfere with the antibiotics, that’s why I said check first. He was vaccinated against Hep A the same day he started using it, but anti-b’s are another story!

Feel better soon :)

what is the home remidy for limes disease?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

A simple course of antibiotics cure this. Don’t mess around, untreated Lyme’s causes major problems (Christie Brinkley had this undiagnosed I believe and did alot of work on this trying to educate the public)

My dog has a lot of ticks and after removing them he has been bleeding a lot, is that normal?

Can just having a tick on them for a long time make them bleed as well?

you should bring him to the vet. has he been vaccinated against lyme disease?

after removing a tick from my daughter, i noticed a small brown spot still on the bite, what do i do?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

while giving my 20 month old a bath i noticed a tick under her arm, i removed it carefully (i thought) after her bath i noticed that there was still a little brown spot on the bite location. Do i try to remove the head or will her body push it out on its own? if so, will it fester up?

The body will eventually reject the tick head on its own. Don’t try to pick at it with tweezers or anything you may actually cause an infection.

Her pediatrician should also be notified that she was bitten be a tick so he/she can have it in your daughter’s file.

Can a tick bite you without attaching itself?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

Just wondering, ticks are getting bad out, and wasn’t sure if the tick had to be attached for a bite, or if they can bite without embedding their heads. Didn’t find any info on that surfing, just how to prevent and remove ticks. No info on how they might bite.

YES YES YES…..many people have no clue they have been bitten until after they are DX w/ lyme disease

How Long does it take for the "bulls Eye" to come up to show you have lime disease from a deer tick?

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin

I got bit by a tick, and we don’t know if it was a deer tick, so were being cautious. But you know how the ring shows up around the bitten area to show you might have lime disease? How long does it take to show?

I’m not positive but i think a week get check out by Ur it check out by Ur Doctor

Tick Removal Tweezers

Posted on March 29th, 2010 by admin

http://www.survivalistboards.com

Inside your first aid kit you should keep a pair of fine pointed tweezers just for tick removal.

It is very important that the tick not be crushed while being removed. If the tick is crushed, there is a chance that the fluids from the tick will be injected into the persons skin.
